Oakland Chinese Christian Church (OCCC),
founded in 1982, was called the Chinese Baptist Church at
the Lakeside in the early years and rented a space for worship
in another church. It all started with a couple of families
and gradually grew to the extent that having its own building
became necessary. Through God's blessings, the congregation
bought a residental house and remodeled it into a church building
in 1989. In that year, the church changed its name to Oakland
Chinese Christian Church. With membership kept growing, the
need to expand became imminent. Under the guidance of the
Holy Spirit, the church bought the current building in 1995.
After the purchase, a lot of effort was put into remodeling
and most of work was done by members of the church during
evenings and weekends. Finally, on Father's day of 1996, the
remodeling work was completed and the first service was held.
Oakland Chinese Christian Church is an independent church,
with no association with any denomination. The church members
believe complete reliance on God's provision and are committed
to preaching the Gospel.
The foundation of the church's faith is based
on the Holy Bible, which is the words of God. We strive to
act in accordance with God's will and prohibit anyone from
misinterpreting the words of God. We believe the trinity of
God and their continual working in our lives. The church has
prepared booklets for believers as guidelines for living a
normal Christian life as to glorify God's name. Some such
guidelines are on devotional living, proper conducts of a
believer, consistency of faith and daily living.
The church has about one hundred active members and around
70 attending church services regularly. The church has two
pastors, a coworker group, and a board of deacons. The coworker
group is responsible for taking care of the spiritual well
being of the church, and the board of deacons, the execution
of various tasks and activities in the church. The groups
meet regularly to discuss and manage church operations.
